What is a CNAME custom domain? #

A CNAME Custom domain allows you to customise your domain so that instead of your URL appearing as genesiv.com/app/server-name, you can use a CNAME to have it appear as custom.mydomain.com/app/server-name.

What benefits are there? #

The benefit of this is that you’ll be able to direct your users to your own website’s domain instead of a separate domain. This improves your branding experience as users won’t be able to see the Genesiv branding (as awesome as it might be :P) – we understand that for businesses, it’s important to maintain your own branding throughout the site – especially in the domain you display to your community – which is why we have this feature.

How do I set it up? #

First and foremost, you’ll need to type in your desired custom domain name. This is usually xxx.mydomain.com where xxx is anything you want. We have seen some people use vip.mydomain.com and some used community.mydomain.com.

Once you type in your custom domain, instructions will appear at the bottom to authenticate it. To do so, you’ll need to go to your domain provider (eg. GoDaddy or CloudFlare) and create the CNAME record in your DNS setting.

With that done, just click on the “Click Here to Verify” and we’ll do an automatic scan to see if it’s updated. Sometimes it might take awhile for your domain settings to be updated so do be patient on this!

Upon successful verification, it should look like this:
